Deuteronomy 29-34 is a little after the time when the Ten Commandments were written, and it shows the disrespect of the Israelites and how they were punished. Later on, in chapter 31, God tells Moses that he will die before they reach the promised land, and that Joshua, one of the freed Israelites, would replace him as leader. Sure enough, Deuteronomy ends with Moses dying and the Israelites turning to Joshua as their leader.

Chapter V

Early the next morning, Captain Moses was roused by a palace messenger. “Get dressed and come stand before the king.” The messenger barked. Moses got dressed hurriedly, woke up Aaron, and they left with the messenger, spyglass in hand. They entered the courts of the king, and the messenger scurried off. “Please end this famine. I will let the Dyonites go, but please, just make this end.” Moses left the king’s presence, and once he had exited the throne room, he twisted the spyglass the other way, and instantly, the humidity ceased. He went back in to the king. “I have done my part, now let them go free.” He insisted. “Yeah, thanks, but I think I’m actually going to keep them.” said the king. “Very well.” said Moses. He twisted the spyglass twice, and when he had done so, he walked outside and saw that a torrential downpour of rotten dead fish had occurred. He sprinted to his ship, realizing with awe that the fish were not raining over the Dyonites’ slave quarters, nor were they over his ship. He smiled, knowing that the king would not be able to live in that filth for long.

The next morning, the messenger once again came to him and told him to go to the king, and once again he complied. Once again, the king promised freedom for the Dyonites if he would make the fish rain stop. Already the palace smelled rancid, and the king had a servant holding a bottle of perfume under his nose. “Get rid of this wretched plague!” the king roared. Moses quickly turned around, twisted the spyglass, and the raining fish with their rancid smell ceased. The king sent the servant away. “You know what, these slaves are actually quite useful. I don’t think I’ll let you have them after all. Sorry, not sorry.” said the king. Moses was not surprised. He went back to his ship, twisted the spyglass three times, and waited.

The next morning he went back to the king, only to find him writhing and itching like crazy. There were red welts all over his skin, and Moses recognized it quickly as stings from fire-coral. He had personal experience with that kind of thing, being a captain of the sea and all. The king had welts all over from it, even on his face, so he could hardly talk. “GET RID OF THITH PLAGUE!” He lisped. “I’LL DO WHATEVER! JUTHT GET RID OF IT!” he gasped out. “If you say so.” said Moses. He twisted the spyglass and the king’s welts disappeared. “On second thought, now that that’s over with, I’m having drawbacks. Yeah, I don’t think I’m gonna do anything for you. So bye-bye!” Moses left his courts fuming. He twisted the spyglass four times, and seaweed began raining from the sky, covering the stands in the marketplaces, and making walkways quite slippery and dangerous. Moses also noticed that it was raining through chimneys and such, and falling into people’s houses. Moses carefully avoided the seaweed on the street and went back to his ship to wait for the king’s next summons.

That summons came that night, and Moses was woken late into the night to go see the king. When he stepped into the king’s court, he was astounded. There was seaweed everywhere, on the ground, even cascading onto the throne. “I’ve had enough of your games, Moses.” said the king, exasperatedly.“Make this seaweed stop, and you can have your people. They are a nuisance to me.” Moses twisted the spyglass, hoping that this time the king would stay true to his promise. However, when the seaweed had ceased raining into the palace, and the king’s servants had swept up the remaining pieces, the king changed his mind. “Um, so I take back what I say. You actually can’t have the Dyonites.” Of course thought Moses why would he ever concede?

Moses strode to the shore of the beach, boarded his ship, told Aaron that he was going to go see the King Neptune, and plunged into the sea. He entered the courts of King Neptune, and related to him all that had happened. “None of the plagues have worked so far!” he cried. “Moses, I promise you, the fifth plague will be the deciding factor. He will consent.” said Neptune. “However, there is something you must do to prevent the effects of the fifth plague harming you and the Dyonites. You must take a piece of the seaweed from the last plague, and pin it to the frame of the door to your house, or in your case, the gangplank on your ship. What will happen when you send the fifth plague is that there will be a tsunami targeting the first born of every household, who will be swept away and killed by the waters. When King Khalfani finds his young son’s body, he will be in such grief that he will let you and the Dyonites go free. Now leave me, and go perform your work.” Moses nodded, and swam back to the shore.

When he boarded his ship, he told his crew of the instructions of King Neptune. “We must make sure that all of the houses that the Dyonites live in are safe, with seaweed pinned to their door-frames.” Moses went down the gangplank, picked up a piece of seaweed, pinned it to the top of it, and rushed to the nearest slave-home. He knocked on the door, told the owner frantically what he must do, and rushed to the next house, noticing that his crew were doing the same. They all worked tirelessly until every house that a Dyonite occupied was safe from the tsunami. When that was achieved, Captain Moses and his faithful crew boarded the ship again, and Moses twisted the spyglass five times. He ordered his crew underneath the main deck, and ducked down himself. When all was still and everyone was sleeping, the tsunami struck. It brushed past the seaweed pinned to some of the houses, and swept in others, carrying away unsuspecting firstborns to a watery grave. It killed the first child that lived in every home that did not have the saving seaweed. The next morning, King Khalfani awoke to find the body of his son lying on his doorstep, not breathing, and soaking wet. He realized that his young son was dead, and knew that it was because of Moses. An hour later, Moses entered his courts. “Take your people and go. You have caused the death of my child and I don’t any more destruction in my kingdom. Just go.” said the king sadly. Moses didn’t need any more prompting. He left the king’s courts, and told all of the Dyonites of their freedom, and that he would take them away on his ship. When they were all safely aboard his the Emerald, Captain Moses had his crew lift anchor, and they set off for the land flowing with pearls and gold.

Chapter IV

The first thing Moses saw when he awoke was a siren sitting upon a rock, her tail resting in the water. He recognized her as the siren that had brought him to King Neptune in the first place. He quickly pulled on his captains uniform, wolfed down some grapes and a croissant, and raced out to the water to meet her, leaving a note for his crew as to his whereabouts before he left. As soon as the siren saw him approaching her rock, she dove into the water and swam off, with Moses following closely after her.

When she had led him to the palace, she swam off and he entered the courts of King Neptune once again. He came before the king and bowed to him. “What news have you for me?” asked the king. “The wicked king refuses to release them, and makes their work harder.” related Moses. “How will we ever change his mind, your esteemed majesty?” inquired Moses. ” Tell him that I will plague his land six times with disaster. I have enchanted your spyglass so that whenever you twist it, I will know to send the plagues at the times that you see fit.” Moses thanked the king and swam back to the Emerald to tell Aaron about their new mission.

As soon as Aaron had been informed about what was to happen, they once more approached King Khalfani to warn him about the plagues to come and to beg him to let the Dyonites leave. When he stubbornly resisted, Moses twisted the spyglass once, and moments later, a noticeable humidity covered the island. And a terrible stench arose from the marketplace that was so bad that he felt an intense urge to investigate. What he found when he followed the smell was that the fish and produce in the market had rotted, and the bread was moldy. Moses knew that with circumstances like this, the king would have to give in soon.

                                                                                                            Chapter III

It took but a day’s journey to travel to Tritonia, and Captain Moses and his crew docked safely at Tritonia Harbor that night.

They slept on the Emerald and in the morning, Captain Moses and his first mate, Lieutenant Aaron Holmes entered the courts of the wicked king Khalfani. “Who are you to approach my excellence?” The king’s voice was gravelly and aloof, and it made Moses feel sheepish. He nudged his first mate, so that he would start talking. “I am Lieutenant Aaron Holmes, and this is my captain, Moses.” Aaron said. “King Khalfani, I beseech you, let the Dyonites go free!” he exclaimed. “In whose name?” demanded the king.

“In the name of his majesty, King Neptune of the emerald seas!” Aaron boldly proclaimed. The king chuckled as if they were mere entertainers in his court. “And why, pray, should I be frightened of this ‘King Neptune’ you speak so highly of?” He bellowed.

Just at this moment, a fierce strike of lightning shook the small island. “Because, if you do not, fiercer things than mere lightning shall plague this island.” said Aaron. King Khalfani brushed them off like flies. “Leave my presence.” He said. They complied and went back to the Emerald. Despite his careless manner, the king had actually become quite wary of this Lieutenant Aaron and his Captain Moses.

He sent for the slaves’ master, and instructed him to take away their pickaxes, for their job was mining gold, and to replace them with weak wooden chisels. “Tell them that they must produce double the amount of gold daily, even with the meager tools supplied.”

When the Dyonites were told about this, they were mortified. They went to Moses and told him what had happened to them because of him. “I will try to fix this.” He told them. “For now, try your hardest with the weak tools provided.

Atomic Bomb

The atomic bomb was first brought into mental existence by a group of scientists including German scientist Albert Einstein,. They were concerned that the Germans would think of it first and put it into action for the good of their army. So they got to work. Since president Franklin Delano Roosevelt was very stressed with thinking about the war, and how the United states could help without getting involved, he had no time to listen to what he thought were the “silly” ideas from scientists.

However, Albert Einstein was very intelligent, and the group of scientists knew that the president would listen to him, so they had him write the president a letter, telling him about the powerful bomb that would split atoms and create radiation so that whole towns could be wiped out. Still, the president disregarded the letter, thinking it unimportant. Finally, the president became desperate. He opened the letter and pored over the contents for days.

He decided that it was a good idea, and got his top scientists, including working on it. He kept it top secret, titling it the “Manhattan project”. By the time the bombs were tested and ready to go, president Roosevelt had died in office, and vice president Harry Truman became president. He made a decision to drop the bombs.

Special planes would open the bomb hatch while hovering in the air, where it would drop thousands of feet, where it exploded for miles around, and then afterwards carried a radiation that made the air practically boil for hours at a time. Also, because of the radiation, many babies were malformed when they were born, and the total death rate was more than 200,000 lives.

Still, the Japanese refused to surrender, so, on August 9th, 1945, a second larger bomb was dropped on Nagasaki, Japan, carrying even more devastating results. This time, the Japanese surrendered unconditionally. The bombings of Nagasaki and Hiroshima, Japan were the first and last time atom bombs were EVER used as weapons.

Winston Churchill

Winston Churchill had a love for soldiers even when he was little. He had an army of toy soldiers that he spent all his spare time commanding. He dreaded lessons and often hid from his governess at school time. Eventually, he was sent to a boarding school. He wrote to his nanny and mother, telling them how much he missed them.

His nanny visited regularly, and this comforted him. When she came though, she was shocked; there were bullies, and frequent beatings and such. She begged his parents to send him to a different school, and they finally consented. When he was 12, he was moved to Harrow, a highly rated school. By then, Winston had grown taller and stronger, and he no longer dreaded school lessons as much. At the end of each semester, he went back to his house to rest.

One day he was playing with his younger brother, Jack, when his father burst into the nursery. Winston jumped. He feared that his father was going to scold him about his poor school reports. Instead, his father paced back and forth, inspecting the toy soldiers. Then he peered at Winston. “Would you like to join the army?” He said. Winston was so surprised, he just spluttered, “Yes please!”. He was, in fact, thrilled at the idea of commanding actual troops. And so, his career decided, he joined an army class in school at the age of only 14.

Although joining an army class at school was simple, it was not simple at all for Winston to join the army. He took an entrance exam for the military training school, and failed…twice. His father would not have him failing a third time, so he had him take intensive lessons from an acquaintance of his father. However, before Winston could meet the teacher, Captain James, he seriously injured himself. He had been playing a game of chase, and he got cornered on a bridge, with his cousin on one end, and his brother on the other. He underestimated the height from the bridge to the ground, and was unable to leave his bed for 3 months.

He spent some time with his father, a politician, and decided that, “When I’m not leading an army, I want to be here, fighting for my people. Finally, he finished his lessons with Captain James, and with his help, passed the exam into Sandhurst (the English Westpoint). Winston loved every minute of it. He was taught strategy and tactics instead of the subjects he had found dreadfully boring at school.

At Sandhurst, he was taught to ride a horse. He very much enjoyed riding and spent all of his spare time and most of his money on horses. The Calvary very much drew him in, and when he graduated, he joined a Calvary regiment against his mother’s wishes.

Shortly after his 21st birthday, he sailed to India with the Fourth Hussars. Winston was very well educated and had traveled to numerous countries by the time he was 23, but he still wasn’t satisfied. He still had not fought in an actual battle. Much to his relief, he heard of a revolt on the Indian border. He was eager to join in the fight. He sent a message to the captain of the team, asking if they could use him, and eventually, he got a reply saying that they would try to fit him in. He took a train, and arrived immediately. He finally experienced what he had been waiting to experience, and was delighted to be a part of it.

Winston eventually joined another team, led by Captain Kitchener. They had a difficult and strenuous journey, but finally they arrived. Suddenly, they spied a long brown smear on the horizon. Winston felt excited as he galloped towards the enemy, because this was the first time he would experience a real battle from the front lines. They won the battle, and Winston went into politics. The first time, he campaigned for the conservatives, and the liberals won. But the people were impressed by his speeches, and he began to see a career into politics opening up. But before he could pursue it, he joined another battle, where he was captured. He made plans with his fellow prisoners to escape, and he did, but his friends never came. Winston grew up, became a politician, got married, and in 3 years, had 2 children, Diana first, and Randolph, second. He became the First Lord of the Admiralty, and with the position, got a large house and a yacht.

He worked often, but when he wasn’t working, he spent a day off with his family in the countryside, or having a picnic. The British government began to get worried about Hitler. He was advancing his battleship fleet. “He is building 3 battleships a year, so that means that we must build 4.” Winston’s wife, Clementine gave birth to a third child, Sarah, while Winston was fighting for Belgium, which Hitler had just invaded. They still hadn’t been defeated, when Winston was demoted from being the First Lord of the admiralty, and became a minor part in the war council. He was insulted and injured, and he resigned from government and was very depressed.

In later days, however, he took heart and involved himself in politics once more. He ran for, and was elected as prime minister at the age of 65. He proved to be an excellent prime minister, and was elected for a second term at the old age 0f 77. He lived a good and wise life, and at the “ripe old age” of 90, he suffered a massive stroke and died. He was well remembered, and a massive funeral was given to remember that courageous leader.

                                          Hitler Youth

I think the “Hitler youth” thing was horrific. In the beginning of the book, Hitler youth, it talked about a boy named Herbert Norkus, who was killed campaigning for the Nazis. He was beaten and stabbed and he died before anything could be done. There was a memorial put up for him, in honor of “the sacrifice he made for his country”. I personally think that is horrible. He didn’t do ANYTHING for his country by dying, never mind help it. Nearly all of the children in Germany at the time Hitler came to power were stupid and naïve. If they had any sense at all, they would have looked at Hitler and seen past his charisma.

In the Hitler youth, boys were trained to become soldiers. They were sent to a camp where they were trained to use guns, and put through hours of physical training each day. It was no better in the schools. Any teachers that were Jewish or would not teach the new “Nazi” curriculum were fired and tortured and eventually emigrated. Soon, children were to taught about Nazi socialism instead of normal subjects, and instead of a “Good morning, children!” each day, every child had to stand up, do the Nazi salute and say, “Heil, Hitler!” (Hail Hitler).

Some children in the Hitler youth eventually become leaders of their weekly meetings and gained authority adults. One girl, Elizabeth Vetter, reported her parents to her leader, saying that they refused to be Nazis, and they were arrested and imprisoned. She and her parents hardly spoke after that.

Then, the holocaust started. Hitler’s secret police, the SS, painted signs and strung them up on Jewish stores, saying not to go in. Then Jews were sent to concentration camps, where they were either murdered or worked to death. Hitler started invasions. Wherever he went, the people were forced to salute him even while they watched his tanks roll in to their town.

So-called “treason” against Hitler was punishable by death. If anyone rallied against Hitler, or protested his worldview in any way, they would almost certainly be executed or sent to a concentration camp. A brother and sister, former Hitler youth Sophie and Hans Scholl, and some of their friends started a rally they called “The White Rose”. Once, they stood at the top of a dormitory in a college, and threw many leaflets in the air, so that they rained down on the students. One student in particular saw them, and reported them for distributing “anti-Nazi” leaflets, and they were arrested and later beheaded.

Suddenly, World war II started, and the Allies came on strong. Hitler knew that Germany was going to be defeated, so he had a broadcast sent out that he had been killed courageously, and like the coward he was, he committed suicide by shooting himself in the head. The Allies won, and unfortunately, many Jews were killed off in the concentration camps that day.

Amelia Earhart

In 1897, Amelia Mary Earhart was born in a little town in Kansas named Atchison. She was the daughter of a German immigrant, Samuel Stanton Earhart and his wife, also named Amelia. She had one younger sister, Grace.

Even at a young age, she was very adventurous. When she was seven, her family went to the St. Louis world fair. There was a roller coaster there, and she begged her mother to go on it with her. When her mother refused, her father agreed to take her on it. This excited her greatly, and she squealed with joy as she went flying the air.

She did not start off her grown up life as an aviator. When she was young, she volunteered for almost a year to be a nurse in a military hospital. It wasn’t until she went to an airplane show (which were popular at the time) that she realized she would like to become a pilot.

She became only the 16th woman to be granted an aviation license. In 1928, she was the first woman to fly over the Atlantic- as a passenger. Then in 1932, she repeated the trip as the pilot. She was also the very first pilot to ever fly solo from Hawaii to California.

Amelia was not as successful, however on her attempted circumnavigation of the Earth. In 1937 she started her flight, but not even half-way through, her brand new plane gave out. Embarrassed, she traveled back to America from Hawaii.

A couple months later Amelia tried again. This time she made it 20,000 miles, but while attempting to radio a Coast Guard ship that would guide and help her, she disappeared and was pronounced dead in 1939 at the would-be age of 41. There have been rumors about how she died, based on remnants of things from her airplane, but nothing has been proven.
